Discovery of a compound that neutralizes snake venom

Sao Paulo: Brazilian researchers have discovered a compound in fruits and vegetables that could neutralize the venom of the venomous pit viper snake, which is common in South America.

According to online reptile data, this snake called Boothraps gerarca bites approximately 26,000 people in Brazil each year.
The study, published in the Frontiers in Pharmacology at the Beautontin Institute in Sao Paulo, Brazil, found that a modified version of a compound called rutin could delay the effects of snake bites. The results of the research suggest that anti-boothrape serum may help in the treatment of this venomous snake bite. This will provide immediate medical assistance to cases of snake bites in suburban areas where immediate medical assistance is impossible. Marcelo Santoro, who coordinated the research, said the serum treats the underlying effects of snake bites. In this way, he said, rioting would act not as a substitute for a serum but as an adjuvant, controlling blood flow and inflammation, and delaying the effects of toxins.
